Student Development

Greetings!

It brings me great joy to welcome you to San Diego Mesa College. I applaud you for taking the first step in higher education. Chances are, the programs and services in the School of Student Development are the first ones you will encounter as you embark on your educational career.

I encourage you to take advantage of the services available to support your success at San Diego Mesa College. Completing the following checklists will allow you to get off on a good start. "Let's Begin" is all about ways to get started, and after obtaining an abbreviated education plan, follow the steps under "Let's Finish" to get involved, and take advantage of work based learning experiences to supplement your education. There are many services available to help you get started with career and major exploration, along with goal setting and education planning that will help you with degree completion. In addition, remember to meet with the counseling faculty and obtain a comprehensive education plan and learn about ways to get one step closer toward fulfilling your goals. An ed plan is your ticket to success!

We have many programs available to students. I encourage you to speak with a counselor to inquire and learn about the various services available to you. We also offer a variety of learning community courses with Personal Growth taught from many perspectives such as Puente, UMOJA, Kapwa, and many others.

Mesa Integration Efforts

The California Community College Chancellor’s Office has been undergoing an effort to integrate the Basic Skills Initiative, Student Equity, and Student Success & Support Program. These programs were selected as part of the integrative efforts since they have similar goals of increasing student success while closing achievement gaps; in addition to the strong potential for overlap.
